A very stressful and frightening invasion of privacy can be caused by obscene or harrassing phone calls.
A breach of the Protection from Harrassment Act carries a maximum prison term of 6 months for a summary offence and maximum 5 years for an offence involving the fear of violence.
Yet on the other end of the scale, commercial nuisance calls can also be an invasion of privacy if they are initiated for commercial or political benefit.
Such nuisance calls should not be made to anyone who has objected to getting them. If you want to object, you should do so in writing. Be sure to include the date and keep a copy of the letter. |
